Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Service Description

This comprehensive course prepares participants to provide appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and ongoing care, including the safe transportation of patients to an appropriate healthcare facility. Training follows the National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP) as defined by the Paramedic Association of Canada, with course content adapted to applicable jurisdictional requirements. Participants take part in skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions, videos, and realistic emergency scenarios. Course Content: The Professional Responder Responding to the Call Infection Prevention & Control Anatomy & Physiology Patient Assessment Airway Management & Respiratory Emergencies Circulatory Emergencies & Shock Hemorrhage & Soft Tissue Trauma Musculoskeletal Injuries Chest, Abdominal & Pelvic Injuries Head & Spinal Injuries Acute & Chronic Illnesses Poisoning Environmental Illnesses Pregnancy, Labour & Delivery Special Populations Crisis Intervention Reaching, Lifting & Extricating Patients Patient Transportation Multiple-Casualty Incidents Pharmacology Marine Environment Workplace Emergencies Course Format / Duration: 80–120 hours Prerequisite: Participants must hold a valid Intermediate First Aid with CPR Level C certification. Certification: 3-year Emergency Medical Responder BLS certification Completion Requirements: Demonstrate competency in all required skills Achieve a minimum score of 75% on the written, closed-book knowledge evaluation Successfully complete two evaluated scenarios – one medical and one trauma Attend and actively participate in 100% of the course Professional Training: This course is designed for professionals responsible for initial patient assessment, providing safe and appropriate emergency care, and transporting patients to the most appropriate healthcare facility. Course content includes any additional requirements established by applicable legislation or jurisdictional standards.
